Field Hockey Edged By Ferrum In Overtime, 1-0

AURORA, N.Y. – Despite outshooting their opponent for the second-straight game, the Wells College field hockey team posted a 1-0 overtime loss to the Panthers of Ferrum College on Saturday at the Athletic Association Field. With the loss, Wells drops to 0-15 on the season while Ferrum (2-14) picks up their second win of the year.

Wells, who outshot their opponent by a 17-to-11 margin, loses their eighth one-goal game of the season as Courtney Hamm was able to sneak a ball just inside the left post for the game-winner only 5:28 into the overtime period. The Express also held the decisive 11-to-6 margin in penalty corners, but Panthers goalkeeper Courtney Gosslin picked up her first career victory in goal with 10 saves to her credit.

Express backstop Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) turned aside 4-of-5 shots on net that she faced in 75:28 of action. On defense, junior Shelby Bourn (Sidney, N.Y.) recorded a defensive save in the game's 43rd minute after using her stick to prevent a shot from Olivia Evans from crossing the goal line.

The Express conclude their 39th season as a varsity program on Sunday, Nov. 2 as they, once again, host Ferrum at 12 p.m. on the Athletic Association Field. The team will honor and recognize their lone graduating senior student-athlete, Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.), with a pre-game ceremony.
