Field Hockey Tripped Up By Houghton, 2-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College field hockey team posted a 2-0 loss at the hands of Houghton College on Tuesday at the Athletic Association Field. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-1 on the young season while the Highlanders improve to 1-0.

Kristin McKane placed the visitors ahead for good within the first 11 minutes of the contest as she tipped home a right-to-left cross past Wells backstop Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.). On a very similar play, Seoyoung Je tipped home a Kelsie Ashley cross in the 33rd minute to capture a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

Both teams recorded five shots but the Highlanders held a 3-to-2 edge in shots on goal. For Wells, senior Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and classmate Cat Taylor (Jackson, N.J.) recorded their team's lone shots on goal.

Wilson drew the loss for Wells, allowing two goals on as many shots. Junior Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) relieved Wilson at the half and made on save down the stretch. Elizabeth Piszker secured the victory for Houghton, turning aside one shot. Elizabeth Modesto recorded a defensive save for Houghton.

Wells hosts New England College this Sunday, Sept. 6 in a 2 p.m. contest at the Athletic Association Field.
