Field Hockey Powers Past New England College, 3-0

AURORA, N.Y. – Three different players recorded a goal for the Wells College field hockey team in their 3-0 shutout victory over New England College on Sunday at the Athletic Association Field. With the win, Wells evens its overall record at 1-1 while the Pilgrims drop to 0-3 on the season.

The Express struck quickly as junior Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) fired home a blast from just under the top of the circle with only 77 seconds expired in regulation time. Senior Chandler Fitzgerald (Weedsport, N.Y.), who picked up the assist on Stokes' strike, added an unassisted goal of her own at 24:27, tapping home a loose ball in the crease.

Sophomore Logan Vincent (Marathon, N.Y.) rounded out the goal scoring for Wells with the first goal of her career in the 70th minute of play, putting back a rebound that came from the stick of sophomore Nicole Sales (Woodbury, Conn.). In total, Wells outshot the Pilgrims by a collective 23-to-1 margin and held the decisive advantage in penalty corners, 18-to-3.

Wells goalkeeper Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) picked up the win for the Express despite not facing a single shot on goal. Karlie Bove, the New England goalkeeper, made 11 saves on 14 total shots faced.

The Express welcome the Mustangs from Morrisville State College to the Athletic Association Field this Saturday, Sept. 12 for the first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference field hockey game. The tilt will begin at 1 p.m.
