Stokes Collects NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Junior Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) of the Wells College field hockey team received North Eastern Athletic Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday morning. Stokes becomes the second-straight selection from Wells to receive the weekly award.

Stokes helped the Express claim their first-ever NEAC win with a 4-1 victory over Morrisville State College on Saturday, contributing with strong midfield play to limit the Mustangs to just four shots while also scoring a breakaway goal in the second half to seal the victory. Stokes would then score another goal against St. Lawrence this past Sunday, which marked the first goal scored by the Express against the Saints since the 1983 season.

Ranking second overall in the conference in both goals (three) and points (six) for the Express, Stokes has registered seven career goals and three assists for 17 points (7-3=17). Appearing in 35 career games for Wells, Stokes scored the game-winning goal against New England College earlier in the season.

The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 19 as they travel to Marywood for a 6 p.m. road contest.
