Taylor's Game-Winner Lifts Field Hockey Over Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – Senior Cat Taylor (Jackson, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal for the Wells College field hockey team in Monday afternoon's 2-1 victory over the host Panthers of Ferrum College. Wells improves to 3-8 overall on the year following the non-conference tilt while the Panthers drop to 1-11 on the season.

With the score tied at one late in the second half, Taylor scored the sixth goal of her career off a feed from classmate Chandler Fitzgerald (Weedsport, N.Y.) at 59:30. Wells was able to keep Ferrum without a shot for the remainder of regulation time, capping off their third victory of the year.

Wells held the early 1-0 lead as junior Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) beat the Ferrum goalkeeper five-hole on a soft shot only 4:56 into the contest. Ferrum, however, would answer with 2:44 remaining on the first half scoreboard as Kiani Mohica would tap home a left-to-right cross past the Wells goalkeeper Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) to tie the game at one.

Wilson earned her second career victory against the Panthers after blanking Ferrum on the final game of the 2014 season. She made six saves on Monday, allowing only one goal, while the Panthers backstop Courtney Gosslin allowed two Wells goals on five shots faced.

The Express will host their next three opponents at the Athletic Association Field, first taking on Nazareth at 4 p.m. this Wednesday, Oct. 14. Wells will welcome Oswego State University on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
