Field Hockey Claims Both NEAC Weekly Awards

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Seniors Chandler Fitzgerald (Weedsport, N.Y.) and Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) of the Wells College field hockey team secured North Eastern Athletic Conference Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. The Express has swept the weekly awards for the first time in team history.

Fitzgerald racked up a goal and an assist this past week for the Express, who defeated Ferrum on the road by a 2-1 margin before silencing Oswego State on Saturday by a 1-0 score. Against the Panthers, Fitzgerald assisted the game-winning goal and later scored the game's only goal in her team's Senior Day victory over the Lakers at home.

In her career, Fitzgerald has appeared in 56 career games for the Express and has scored four goals and two assists for 10 points (4-2=10). As a senior, her three goals and two assists for eight points (3-2=8) is the highest single-season total in her career and the game-winning goal against Oswego State was her first-ever.

Playing just over 216 minutes of action in goal this past week, Wilson posted an outstanding 0.97 goals-against average and made 12 saves on 15 shots faced for an .800 save percentage. Against Ferrum on Monday, Wilson made a season-high six saves for her second career win against the Panthers. She went on to make four saves in a tough 2-1 loss to Nazareth on Wednesday before rebounding with a two-save shutout against Oswego State on Saturday.

Across her career, she has appeared in 13 games for the Express and boasts a 1.43 goals-against average and has made 46 saves in two seasons for Wells.

The Express return to action Sunday, Oct. 25 as they welcome Hartwick for a 1 p.m. tilt at the Athletic Association Field.
