Wells, Wilson To Battle For NEAC Field Hockey Championship

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College field hockey team will take on the host Phoenix from Wilson College this Saturday, Oct. 31 in the first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship Game. The game will begin promptly at 1 p.m. in Chambersburg, Pa.

Wilson earned the right to host the league's title game after posting a 3-0 record in NEAC play this past year. Wells finished second in the final NEAC regular season standings and will make its first appearance in a league final since Nov. 7, 2004 where the Express lost to Notre Dame (Md.) in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference championship game.

"We have come a long way from just one season ago and we are excited to be participating in the first-ever conference championship," said Head Coach Kat Heterbring. "Wells has played without a conference for the past eight seasons and one of our season's goals was to qualify for the championship. Our hard work throughout the season working toward that goal will hopefully pay off for us on Saturday."

The Express dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Wilson in Chambersburg earlier in the season. In that game, junior Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) tied the game at 1-1 in the second half to force overtime, but Annie Demmy put home a right-to-left cross at 85:50 to send her team home with the victory.

To qualify for the aforementioned AWCC postseason game against Notre Dame (Md.), the Express had to defeat Wilson in the semifinals on Nov. 6, 2004. In that contest, hosted by Wilson, the Express defeated the Phoenix by a 3-2 margin with an overtime goal from Amanda Lescarbeau '06.
