Ithaca Outscores Wells Field Hockey

The Wells College field hockey team returned to non-conference action following Saturday's 1-0 win over Morrisville State College and fell by an 8-0 score to visiting Ithaca College on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Wells Turf Field. Ithaca improved to 5-3 on the year and Wells is 3-8 overall.

Ithaca opened the scoring in the game's ninth minute. Shortly after, Wells had its best scoring opportunity of the match when Kelly Mason carried the ball on a partial breakaway behind the Ithaca defense, but her attempt at cage was stopped by the on-rushing Ithaca goalkeeper who slid to break up the play.

The Bombers added a second goal in the 12th minute of play, and then scored two goals in a span of 48 seconds to take a 4-0 lead.

One more goal before halftime, and three more in the second half accounted for the final score.

Wells goalkeeper Kelsey Kokosa made five saves in 18 minutes of work. Sydney Line played the final 52 minutes and had 19 saves. Lexi Cohen had a defensive save.

The Express returns to action Saturday at home against Wilson College. These teams played in the 2015 NEAC Championship game, won by Wells by a score of 1-0.
