Brockport Rallies For Win Over Wells Field Hockey

The Wells College field hockey team took a lead in the final minute of the first half but eventually fell to visiting Brockport by a 2-1 score on Friday, Oct. 14 at the Wells Turf Field. Wells is 4-12 on the season and Brockport improved to 3-11.

It was the second meeting of the season between Wells and Brockport, and the Golden Eagles won the first game by a 4-1 score.

Brockport held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but the fourth shot for Wells was the most significant of the opening 35 minutes. As the scoreboard clock counted down the final minute of the first half, Kelly Mason led an up-field rush and passed to Shianne Stokes in the middle of the field. She turned and made a pass inside the circle to the right side, where Kate Wells ran forward and fired a low shot around the goalkeeper. It was the fifth goal of the season for Kate Wells.

Earlier in the first half, Brockport almost went ahead but a shot from close range beat goalkeeper Kelsey Kokosa but defender Lexi Cohen raced across the front of the cage and turned the shot aside for her seventh defensive save of the year.

Brockport tied the score 1-1 with 26 minutes remaining in the second half, and scored the eventual game-winner with 9:47 left in the second half.

Wells earned one penalty corner down the stretch but couldn't come up with the tying goal. Brockport led 17-8 in shots and 10-2 in penalty corners. Kokosa made nine saves.
