NEAC Field Hockey Awards Recognize Four From Wells

The Wells College field hockey team was represented by three players and head coach Kat Heterbring as the North Eastern Athletic Conference postseason honors were announced for the 2016 season.

Heterbring led the Express to a first-place regular-season finish in the NEAC and the Express hosts the 2016 championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. against Wilson. Wells won the inaugural championship game in 2015.

Three players earned mention on the all-conference team – senior defender Lexi Cohen, freshman forward Kelly Mason and junior forward Kate Wells. It is the first all-conference honor for each of the three players.

Cohen started all 18 games in the regular season for Wells and led the team's back line of defense. She was a team captain and had a team-leading and conference-leading seven defensive saves, which ranks 21st among all players in NCAA Division III Field Hockey. She was the NEAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 18.

Mason leads the team in goals and points with six goals and 13 points on the year. She scored game-winning goals in 1-0 conference victories over Morrisville State College and Wilson College. Mason was named NEAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 25.

Kate Wells ranks second on the team in scoring with 12 points on five goals and two assists.
