The Wells College field hockey team fell by a score of 4-2 against visiting Morrisville State College on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Wells Turf Field. Kate Wells and Mollie Walts scored their first goals of the season for the Express.
Wells is 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Morrisville improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 against NEAC members.
The Mustangs opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Hayley Fonfara scored on a rebound from in front of the Wells net. The Express answered back and tied the score 1-1 when Kelly Mason sent a long pass from the right side that was deflected into the net from right in front by Kate Wells. The score was 1-1 at halftime.
Morrisville scored three straight goals in the second half to take control. Two goals in a span of three minutes sent Morrisville to the lead, and an insurance goal with 4:20 left in the half made it 4-1.
Wells scored in the final 10 seconds of the game. Following a penalty corner, Wells had pressure in front. Chloe Marcus took a shot that was saved, and Marcus passed the rebound to Mollie Walts for a tap-in goal at the right post.
Wells goalkeeper Allison Solomon had 14 saves.
The Express is back in action Sunday, Sept. 10 for a noon home game against Cedar Crest.
