The Wells College field hockey team fell by a 7-1 score to Houghton College in a non-league game Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Wells Turf Field in Aurora.
Kelly Mason scored a first-half goal for the Express, assisted by Whitney Coleman. Off of a penalty corner, Coleman passed to Mason, who made a quick dribble and fired a low shot past the Houghton goalkeeper.
The Wells goal broke a run of three Houghton goals to start the game. The Highlanders added one more goal before halftime to lead 4-1, and added three second-half goals. Houghton outshot Wells 42-10. Allison Solomon made a career-high 20 saves for Wells.
Abby Gilson, Katherine Pryor, and Ivy Cromp each had a defensive save for the Express.
Wells is 0-9 on the season and Houghton improved to 4-4.
The Express returns to action with a conference game Sunday, Oct. 1 at home against first-year North Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Bryn Athyn College at 2 p.m.
