Sage Holds Off Wells Field Hockey

The Wells College field hockey team hosted The Sage Colleges on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Wells Turf Field. Sage held off the Express for a 3-1 victory. Sage is 2-5 on the season and Wells is 1-6.

Sage scored two first-half goals but Wells answered in the second half to pull to within one. On a penalty corner, a shot from the top of the arc by Chloe Marcus was blocked. On the ensuing scramble, Whitney Coleman slid the ball toward the front of the net where Mollie Walts shot it over the line.

It was the third goal of the season for Walts and the second assist of the year for Coleman, and it came with 20:25 remaining in the second half. Wells pushed for the equalizer, but Sage held off the rally. The Gators scored with 2:31 remaining to account for the final score.

Wells goalkeeper Allison Solomon had 15 saves and the Express defended 16 penalty corners by Sage.

The Express returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 25 against Elmira College at 6:45 p.m. It will be the team's annual Pink Game in support of those affected by breast cancer. There will be prizes awarded to those in attendance, opportunities for fan donations to charities and services in support of breast cancer support and research, and the team will wear special pink jerseys.
