Field Hockey Team Rallies to Within One in Final Quarter

The Wells College field hockey team dropped a 5-2 road contest to Sweet Briar College on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Express went up 1-0 before the Vixens took a 2-1 lead at the break. With a defensive third quarter that produced no goals for either team, Sweet Briar scored in the first minute of the fourth quarter for a two-goal lead. Wells needed about 90 seconds to respond to keep the game within one goal in the fourth before the Vixens closed out the scoring with the game's final two goals.

Hannah Koerner gave Wells the first lead of the game in the second quarter and 22 minutes into the contest. Sadie Sheffler earned an assist on the play. Whitney Coleman got the team's other goal that drew the Express within one in the fourth. Caitlin Lawrence earned an assist on Coleman's tally.

The Express finished with 10 shots and were led by Chloe Marcus' three. A pair of shots each were registered by Koerner and Sheffler. Single shots came from Alyssa Rocas, Coleman and Lawrence, while Sabrina Burns recorded a dozen saves in the Wells net.

The Express will leave Virginia and head to New Jersey for tomorrow's contest at Centenary College on Sunday, Oct. 13 with a 1 p.m. start.
