SUNY IT HOLDS ON TO DEFEAT WELLS

The Wells men's basketball team came up just short, losing to NEAC conference leader SUNY IT 80-71 Wednesday night at SUNY IT. The Express were led by junior Juan Paulino (Bronx, NY) who finished with 17 points and 18 rebounds, while junior Darrel Bullock (Chicago, IL) finished with 18 points along with five assist and four steals.

Wells jumped out to a quick 21-12 lead at the 12:57 mark in the first half, but the Wildcats would battle back, going on a 30-10 run the rest of the half to go into the break up 42-31.

The Wildcats would hold a double-digit lead for the first nine minutes of the second half, but two made free throws by Paulino at the 10:55 mark began a 19-7 Wells run which cut the SUNYIT lead down to two, 64-62, with 4:42 left to play.  From there the Wildcats would score seven consecutive points on a free throw and back-to-back threes. Another three-pointer with 1:29 left in the game would give the Wildcats a 10-point lead.  Wells would get as close as four points with 45 seconds left, but the Wildcats would hit six-out-of-eight free throw attempts in the remaining seconds to seal the hard-fought victory.

With the loss the Express fall to 9-10 and will next play SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, February 7th at 2:00 pm at Wells.
