WELLS COLLEGE INAUGURAL MEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the College's inaugural men's basketball season open this weekend. The team's first game will take place at 2:00 pm this Saturday, November 15 against Alfred University at Ithaca College's Ben Light Gym

The new men's basketball program, led by head coach Joe Wojtylko, begins competing at the intercollegiate level on Saturday. "After 18 months of planning and recruiting top student-athletes, Wells puts to the test its newest varsity team this weekend," said Coach Wojtylko. "These men have trained hard and are ready to face Alfred University."

The season's first two games will be held off-site due to temporary zoning restrictions at Wells' Schwartz Athletic Center home court. This weekend's second contest, scheduled for Sunday, November 16 against Penn. State – Harrisburg, will be held at Cornell's Newman Arena at 10:00 am. Wells will provide student transportation from Aurora to each game.

"Basketball introduces an exciting spectator sport for our entire community to enjoy during the winter," said Director of Athletics Jamey Ventura. "I expect a large crowd will come out to cheer on the Wells Express this season."

Wells College is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III member and joined the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) in fall 2007. The College currently offers the following intercollegiate teams — Women: field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, and cross country; a new basketball program is being offered this winter at the club level and will elevate to varsity next season. Men: soccer, swimming, lacrosse, cross country, and now basketball. A new mixed golf team will compete at the varsity level in spring 2009. The College continues to develop plans for additional sport sponsorship that are inclusive of both men and women, and meet the needs of college students today. Directions to Ithaca College and Cornell
