THOROUGHBREDS RUN OVER EXPRESS

Saratoga Springs, NY–  The Skidmore College men's basketball team jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and led by as many as 31 points in the second half cruising to the 102-74 victory over the Wells College Express in the consolation game of the Skidmore Hilton Garden Inn Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds improve to 6-1, while the Express fall to 4-4.

Wells was led by Darrell Bullock who finished with a game high 16 points and four assists to go along with four rebounds. Juan Paulino registered his second straight double-double and sixth of the season, finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Greg Jones chipped in with 15 points and Matt Duffy added 13 for the Express.

Skidmore led right from the tip when Gerard O'Shea  found Jeff Altimar for a layup and converted a three-point play 24 seconds into the game.  The Thoroughbreds went into halftime with a 47-35 lead.

Skidmore opened the game up in the second half on the heels of a 22-4 run, capped by a three-pointer by Jon Douglas giving the Thoroughbreds a 30-point lead with 14:42 remaining. The Express never recovered as Skidmore secured the 28 point victory.

The Express shot 50 percent from the floor (30-60), 33 percent from behind the arc (5-15), and 64 percent from the charity stripe (9-14) while committing 23 turnovers to the Thoroughbreds 13. The Express held a slight advantage on the glass 33-32.

Altimar (Medfield, Mass.) and Sakhile Sithole each scored 15 points to lead five Skidmore players in double-figures.  Kyle Clark (New York, N.Y.) and Jon Douglas (Amherst, Mass.) both chipped in with 12 points while Melvis Langyintuo (Tamale, Ghana) added 10 points for the Thoroughbreds.

Wells returns to action on Wednesday, December 9th when they take on NEAC rival Cazenovia College at 7:00 pm at the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Field House in Aurora, N.Y.
