MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO NITTANY LIONS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The Penn. St. Harrisburg Nittany Lions led by 18 at the half and held on to defeat the Wells College Express 90-78 in North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball action Sunday afternoon in Aurora. With the loss the Express fall to 2-6 (2-2 NEAC), while the Nittany Lions improve to 2-4 (2-0 NEAC).
 
Mabior Mayen (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Terry Harrison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Forest Hills) added 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Express.
 
Kenton Alston (Harrisburg, Pa./Steel-High) finished with game highs in points (26) and rebounds (15) to lead four Nittany Lions in double-figures. Steve Jones (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) notched his own double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Gattchel (Manheim, Pa./Donegal) added 17 points, while Nick Liddell (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) finished with 15 points for Harrisburg.
 
The Express shot 43.3 percent from the floor and were 6 of 19 from behind the arc. The Nittany Lions faired a little better from the floor shooting 48.5 percent, including 8 of 15 from behind the arc. Harrisburg held a slight advantage in rebounds 42-41.
 
The two teams came out flying in the first half as both teams went shot for shot through the first 15 minutes of play. The Nittany Lions began to pick things late in the first half. Up 30-29 with 5:29 to play the Nittany Lions went on a 20-3 run to close the half with a 50-32 lead.
 
Down 55-36 early in the second half the Express would make a valiant comeback effort going on a 20-5 run to trim the lead to four (60-56) with 11:55 to play. The halftime deficit would prove to be too much to overcome as the Nittany Lions pulled away late in the second half for the 12 point victory.
 
The Express return to action next on Dec. 7 against NEAC opponent Keuka College. The game is set to tip at 6.p.m.
