EXPRESS GROUND SOARING EAGLES

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Mabior Mayen (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished with 19 points, ten rebounds, and seven blocks, and Kevin Marseille (Elizabeth, N.J.) added 12 points as the Wells College men's basketball team rolled past the Elmira College Soaring Eagles 66-52 in the consolation game of the University of Rochester Holiday Inn Airport Tournament Sunday afternoon in Rochester. With the win the Express improve to 1-4 on the season while the Soaring Eagles fall to 0-5.

Elmira received scoring from nine different players but none would be able to crack the double digit mark. Matt Newell led the Soaring Eagles tied for a team high nine points and seven rebounds, while teammate Kurt Dutcher added nine points and five rebounds.

A lay-up by Marseille and three from Darnell McDuffy (Rochester, N.Y.) sparked the Express to an early 10-point lead (14-4) and lead they would never relinquish. Wells continued to roll opening up a 22-8 lead midway through the first half. The Soaring Eagles pulled within five (33-28) on back-to-back 3-pointers by Derrick Vogel and Neil Randolph late in the half but, a lay-up from McDuffy and two mid-range jumpers from Dave Foltz (Auburn, N.Y.) propelled Wells to a 39-28 halftime lead.

The Express controlled the entire second half, leading by as many as 15 points and never less than seven as an emphatic dunk by Mayen with less than a minute to play put the finishing touches on Wells' first win of the season.

The Express shot 46 percent from the floor and finished 15 of 19 from the line, while holding a slight 35-34 advantage on the glass.

Wells returns to action on Wednesday Nov. 30 when they travel to take on Alfred University at 7:30 p.m. in Alfred, N.Y.
