EXPRESS DROP NON-CONFERENCE MATCH-UP TO GOLDEN FLYERS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Nazareth College men's basketball team entered halftime with a 39-26 lead and never looked back en route to a 71-60 victory over the Wells College Express Tuesday evening in Rochester. The loss drops the Express to 4-9 on the season while Nazareth improves to 8-5.

Three different players scored in double-figures for Wells led by Terry Harrison (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who finished with a team high 16 points, including 10-13 from the charity stripe. Andre Sawyers (Bronx, N.Y.) added 12 points and six rebounds while Mike DiCampli (Geneva, N.Y.) finished with 12 points.

Jason Corletta paced Nazareth with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while teammate Jarnell Johnson came off the bench to score a game high 17 points.

The Express took an early 9-4 lead led by a 3-pointer from EJ Taylor (Tampa Bay, Fla.) and three straight points from Dave Foltz (Auburn, N.Y.).  The Golden Flyers responded with six straight points of their own to take the lead and would extend their lead to as many as 17 points in the half.

The Express battled back just before the buzzer with two free throws by Sawyers and a late jumper by Darnell McDuffy (Rochester, N.Y.) pulling the Express back to within 13 points (39-26) heading into the break.

Wells outscored the Golden Flyers 34-32 in the second half and twice cut the lead to seven points but, the first half deficit would prove to be too large as Nazareth held on for the non-conference victory.

The Golden Flyers controlled the offensive glass all night out rebounding the Express 19-8 and finishing with 21 second chance points. Overall, Nazareth finished with a 40-25 advantage on the boards while finishing 46.8 percent shooting from the floor.

The Express were able to get to the line finishing 19-27 from the charity stripe, while shooting 41 percent from the floor, including 5-12 from behind the arc.

The Express will look to snap their five game skid when they travel to Penn. St. Harrisburg to take on the Nittany Lions at 12 p.m. in Harrisburg, Pa in a rematch of last year's NEAC championship game.
