Men’s Basketball Drops Non-Conference Tilt To Hartwick, 94-61

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Junior Jonathan Bonds (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Jordan Bishop (Arlington, Texas) each recorded 10 points as the Wells College men's basketball squad posted a 94-61 loss to the Hawks of Hartwick College Sunday afternoon at Lambros Arena. Both teams even their overall records at 2-2 following the non-conference contest.

The Express never possessed a lead in the contest as the Hawks came out of the gate with a strong shooting performance. Hartwick was a combined 5-for-5 from the field within the game's first 2:26, capturing a 10-0 lead across that time frame. A three point basket by junior E.J. Taylor (Tampa Bay, Fla.) cut the margin to 16-7 with 14:27 remaining in the first half, but the Hawks lead was not threatened for the remainder of the contest.

To conclude the first half, the Hawks held the Express to only six points in the final five minutes. With 13 points for the Hawks across that span, Hartwick accumulated a half-time lead of 25 points. The Hawks were able to capitalize for 18 points off of Express turnovers in the opening stanza, including 10 points off of second chance opportunities.

With the score at 73-40 in favor of the home team with 9:48 remaining in regulation, the Express established an unopposed seven point run. Free throw shots by Salvatore Fabozzi (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Ryan Hood (Massillon, Ohio) preceded a three point basket by Hood and a layup by Bishop to cut the deficit to 27 points. That was the closest the Express would get to their opponent as the Hawks kept the visitors at arm's length throughout the remainder of the tilt, ultimately capturing the victory by 33 points.

Both Bonds and Bishop converted five field goals in the contest, comprising each player's 10 points. Hood sank two of the team's five three point baskets en route to a nine point effort. Hood also chipped in a block. Defensively, Bonds led the way with seven total rebounds in the contest.

For the Hawks, Kyle Bradley and Jared Suderley each recorded 20 point games, as Bradley was 7-of-11 in field goals while Suderley was equally as impressive, burying 10-of-17 field goal attempts. In only three minutes of action, Mike Geisser was 6-for-6 from the floor, including three separate three point attempts.

The Express return to action this Wednesday, Nov. 28 as they host the Saxons of Alfred University in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
