Taylor Buries 100th Career “Three”, Men’s Basketball Knocks Off SUNYIT

MARCY, N.Y. – Junior E.J. Taylor (Tampa Bay, Fla.) poured home his 100th career three-point basket as the Wells College men's basketball team posted a 70-53 victory over the Wildcats of SUNYIT Sunday afternoon at the Campus Center Gym. With the victory, the Express improve to 11-13 overall on the year and to 6-7 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Wildcats fall to 8-15 overall and to 6-7 within league play.

Following a 4-for-8 performance from beyond the arc, Taylor reached the century mark for three-point baskets. Across his 44 game career as a member of the Express, Taylor is 100-for-283 from the perimeter and ranks eighth all-time with a .346 three-point percentage. In today's contest, Taylor posted 24 points to lead the team, burying six field goals and posting eight free throws in nine opportunities.

Sophomore J.J. Walton (Ocala, Fla.) ranked second on the squad with 13 total points while junior Jonathan Hurtado (Brooklyn, N.Y.) struck for 12 points of his own. Junior Jonathan Bonds (Chicago, Ill.) posted 10 rebounds and nine total points.

The Express led wire-to-wire in the contest, eventually building up a game-high 18 point lead with 56 seconds remaining in the second half. Taylor opened the scoring with a three-point basket with only 39 seconds expired in the game. Only 22 seconds later, Taylor collected a Ryan James turnover and was fouled on the ensuing shot, lifting the Express to a five point lead with only 1:01 in the game expired.

Taylor accounted for 15 of his team's 32 points in the first half, posting three of his four three-point baskets in the opening stanza. In the second half, Hurtado posted 10 total points to lead the way, shooting 4-of-7 from the field. Bonds secured six rebounds in the second half alone.

T'Andre Richardson led the way for SUNYIT with 23 points, shooting 10-for-14 from the field. Alex Drake posted 16 total points while also securing three steals and three assists for his team. Both teams posted 32 points in the paint while the Express scored 18 points off of SUNYIT turnovers. The Wildcats scored 13 points off of second chance opportunities.

The Express return to action this Saturday, Feb. 16 as they host the Storm of Keuka College in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
