Men’s Basketball Stunned By Alfred, 108-70

ALFRED, N.Y. – For the first time since the very first game in program history, the Wells College men's basketball team posted a 108-70 loss to the Saxons of Alfred University Tuesday evening at the McLane Center. With the loss, the Express fall to 0-2 across the early non-conference schedule while Alfred improves to 2-0 overall on the year following back-to-back victories over North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents.

Wells, who held the decisive 4-1 all-time advantage over the Saxons, last lost to Alfred on Nov. 15, 2008, the very first game in program history. With a 38 point spread between the two teams, the loss ranks as the second-worst in team history for the Express. The worst loss in team history, a 48 point defeat at the hands of Rochester (N.Y.), came on Nov. 26, 2011.

Alfred dominated Wells throughout the game, scoring 40 of their team's points off of Express turnovers. The Saxons bench also racked up 70 of their team's points en route to the victory. Wells was led by senior Al Paul's (Elmont, N.Y.) 14 points and seven rebounds while sophomore Randy McCormick (Massillon, Ohio) scored 12 for the Express.

20 different players entered the game for Alfred as the Saxons took 92 shots from the floor. Ryan Mahon led all Alfred players with 15 points, all off the bench – he poured home five three-point baskets. 18 total players scored points for the Saxons.

Wells returns to action this Thursday, Nov. 21 as they host the Hawks of Hartwick College at 8:00 p.m. in their home opener at the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Athletic Wing.
