AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Shakeel Simmons (Brentwood, N.Y.) led all Express players with 16 points as the Wells College men's basketball team posted a 70-59 non-conference loss to the Hawks of Hartwick College Thursday evening at the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Athletic Wing. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-3 on the year while Hartwick boosts their overall record to 2-1.

Simmons paced the Express with a career-best 16 points while freshman Chris Courtney (Auburn, N.Y.) also set a career-high with 12 points to his credit. Senior Jonathan Bonds (Chicago, Ill.) recorded his second career double-double after pulling down 12 rebounds while scoring 10 points for Wells.

Hartwick never relinquished the lead from the very start of the game, despite Wells tying the score at six aside following a Simmons three-point basket with 5:20 expired in the first half. Trailing by eight with only 49 seconds left in the stanza, the Express rattled off four-straight points using a Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.) layup and two foul shots from Courtney with .5 seconds remaining on the clock. Wells trailed by a 30-26 margin exiting the first half.

A Simmons layup with 11:28 remaining in the second half brought Wells to within one point at 47-46, but eight-straight points by the Hawks placed the game firmly out of reach. Courtney ended the streak with a jumper with 7:51 remaining in the stanza but a three-point basket by Joey Lufkin placed the guests up by 10 points with 7:34 left.

Senior Jared Suderley led Hartwick with 21 points, burying all nine foul shots to bolster his offensive efforts. Lufkin ranked second with 19 points while Kyle Bradley was third with 12 total points. Anthony Keane led the way with eight rebounds and a team-best four assists.

The Express host the Bombers of Ithaca College at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 23 in their fourth-straight non-conference tilt. Wells is 1-0 all-time against Ithaca within the confines of the Farenthold Athletic Wing.
