Men’s Basketball Dropped By Lancaster Bible, 80-58

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Wells College men's basketball team was saddled with an 80-58 road loss at the hands of Lancaster Bible College on Saturday. Wells has lost five of their last six games to drop to 8-15 overall on the season while falling to 7-9 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Chargers lead all NEAC teams with a 13-2 league record and improve to 15-7 overall on the season.

Senior Al Paul (Elmont, N.Y.) was the lone Wells player to crack double-digit point scoring with 11 points. Classmate Jonathan Hurtado (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.) each pulled down a team-best five rebounds while junior J.J. Walton (Ocala, Fla.) assisted a team-best four Wells baskets.

Wells never possessed a lead in the game, trailing by a 3-0 margin within the game's first 46 seconds following a three-point basket by C.J. Dunston. The Express trailed by 11 points, 16-5, only 3:55 into the contest after Albert Suniga converted one of his two foul shots. Wells climbed back to within four points, 18-14, after a Jean jumper with 11:06 remaining in the first half, but the host Chargers immediately countered with a three-pointer from Naheer Mirza to start their own rally.

Lancaster Bible did not slow their pace in the second half, building up a game-high 25 point lead, 61-36, with 12:01 remaining in regulation time. The Express were unable to shrink the gap to fewer than 18 points from that point onward. Ultimately, three-point shooting and foul shooting doomed the Express against the Chargers – Wells only shot 10-for-21 from the charity stripe and did not record a three-point basket (0-for-7).

The Chargers were led by Suniga's 18 total points. Mirza racked up 15 points after shooting 5-for-6 from the three-point arc while Dunston was the third member of the Chargers to record double-digit points with 10. Dondre Perry assisted a team-high four baskets while Trevor Marsh tallied three steals off the bench for Lancaster Bible.

Wells returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 19 as they face-off against the Mustangs of Morrisville State College in a 5:00 p.m. contest.
