Men's Basketball Defeated By Alfred, 84-77

AURORA, N.Y. Despite boasting two 20-plus point scorers on Wednesday, the Wells College men's basketball team posted an 84-77 loss to the Saxons of Alfred University at the Farenthold Athletic Wing. With the loss, Wells drops to 0-2 on the young season while Alfred (2-0) remains undefeated following the non-conference tilt.

For the second-straight game, senior Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.) recorded at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, striking for 24 points against Alfred while hauling in six offensive rebounds en route to a team-high 11 boards. Senior Joe Walton (Ocala, Fla.) shot 7-for-11 from the floor, tallying 20 points and six assists.

In addition to his three steals, senior Shakeel Simmons (Brentwood, N.Y.) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. Senior EZ Garcia (Cotulla, Texas) posted four assists and three steals for Wells in the loss.

The Saxons opened up a 26-4 lead on Wells through the game's first 10:27 as Dalton Walsh racked up 15 of his team's points in only 6:51. However, in the game's final 31:05, the Express were able to outscore their opponent by a 74-60 margin. The damage, however, had been done after the sluggish start to the game by the Express.

Trailing by 22, the Express scored the game's next 12 points and went on a 28-13 run to close the half. In the first half alone, Wells saw 12 points from Jean who also pulled down seven rebounds in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Alfred reestablished a sizeable lead with 9:55 left to go in regulation, leading 62-46 following a Tim Pacheco layup. Wells, however, rallied to shrink the score to 73-68 following a Walton layup with 2:32 left. With Wells forced to foul from that point on, however, the Saxons put the game away by shooting 11-for-12 from the charity stripe in the waning minutes.

Walsh led all players with 29 points to his credit, shooting 12-for-18 from the floor and collecting 14 rebounds. Tyler Seelman had 20 points and five assists for Alfred while Julian Reinhart shot 9-for-11 from the foul line on his way to an 11 point performance.

The Express return to action Saturday, Nov. 22 as they welcome the Golden Knights from Clarkson University for a 3 p.m. home game.
