AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.) scored a team-leading 12 points as the Wells College men's basketball team posted an 87-66 loss to the Golden Knights of Clarkson University on Saturday at the Farenthold Athletic Wing. The Express drop to 0-3 on the year while Clarkson (4-0) remains undefeated on the young season.
Jean has led the team in scoring for the third-straight contest, shooting 5-for-5 from the floor while hauling in four rebounds. Freshman MJ Williams (Riverview, Fla.) ranked second on the team with 10 points while senior EZ Garcia (Cotulla, Texas) racked up six rebounds for the Express. Senior Shakeel Simmons (Brentwood, N.Y.) poured home two three-pointers for Wells as the squad shot 8-for-17 from distance.
Wells captured a five point lead at 16:29 of the first half following a Williams jumper, but the visitors scored the game's next 10 points to capture a lead that they would not relinquish. The game was put out of reach by Clarkson in the opening minutes of the second half as the Golden Knights opened up a game-high 28 point lead only 4:27 into the stanza following a John Coleman layup.
The Express found their stroke from three-point land in the second half, bombing seven three-pointers in the final 20 minutes but the early damage had been done. Clarkson shot 15-for-25 in the second half, converting at a 60% clip, to counter the strong shooting by Wells.
Clarkson was led by Felix Abongo's 21 points off of a 7-for-11 performance from the floor. Charles McAllister posted 20 points of his own, bombing three shots from distance to lead both teams. The Golden Knights dominated the paint, outscoring the Express by a 44-to-20 margin around the rim while outrebounding the hosts.
Wells returns to action Monday, Dec. 1 as they face-off against Alfred State College in a 7:30 p.m. road contest. The Express open their North Eastern Athletic Conference schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 3, traveling to play the reigning NEAC Champion Mustangs of Morrisville State College at 8 p.m.
