Men's Basketball Tripped Up By Whitworth, 84-43

SPOKANE, Wash. – Senior Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.) posted a team-best 13 points as the Wells College men's basketball team posted an 84-43 loss to Whitworth University Monday afternoon at the Whitworth Fieldhouse. With the loss, Wells dips to 1-9 overall on the year while Whitworth, who made it to the NCAA Division III Tournament only a season ago, improves to 7-2.

Jean's 13 points led the team while sophomore James Feocco (Auburn, N.Y.) scored eight points for Wells, including the first four points of the contest. Senior Shakeel Simmons (Brentwood, N.Y.) pulled down six rebounds for the Express, who also saw two steals from classmate Salvatore Fabozzi (Staten Island, N.Y.), a team-high.

Whitworth opened up the game on a 22-to-8 run that the Express could not come back from. Trailing by a 68-38 margin with 5:50 left in regulation time, the Pirates went on a 19-to-5 run in which they tied their team's record for three-point baskets made in one game with 19. On the afternoon, Whitworth shot a blistering 19-for-31 (61.3%) from beyond the arc and made only 10 non-three point field goals on the day.

Christian Jurlina shot 6-for-10 from the floor with a team-best 17 points for the Pirates. Matt Staudacher, Derek Isaac and Riley Moreen each had 10-plus point games while 12 different players recorded at least two points for the hosts. 22-of-29 baskets for Whitworth had assists while the Pirates threw up eight blocks against the Express. The Pirates also registered nine takeaways on the afternoon.

The Express head home after their first-ever winter break road trip and take on the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton in the Farenthold Athletic Wing on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m.
