Men's Basketball Subdued By Bryn Athyn, 79-57

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Wells College men's basketball team posted a 79-57 loss to Bryn Athyn College Saturday afternoon on the road. The Express fall to 1-12 overall and to 1-4 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Bryn Athyn picks up only their second overall win in 12 chances along with their second victory within league play in 2014-15.

Wells was led by sophomore James Feocco (Auburn, N.Y.) and his 15 points. Classmate Chris Courtney (Auburn, N.Y.) scored 11 while Darius Smith (Lanham, Md.) continued to demonstrate proficiency from three-point distance, scoring 10 points while tying with Courtney for the team lead with three field goals from beyond the arc.

The Express continue to be punished from beyond the arc as their opponents have poured home six or more three-pointers in 12-of-13 contests this season. The Lions would add to that statistic, converting 10 three-point field goals against Wells as the team collectively shot 52% (26-for-50). The Express also missed 11 free throws, uncharacteristic of a team that ranks within the top-three of NEAC teams in that category.

Wells opened the game with an impressive 8-0 lead as senior Tyrese Campbell (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored off a jumper that preceded back-to-back free throws. Courtney added to the Wells run with a three-pointer while senior Shakeel Simmons (Brentwood, N.Y.) capped off the run with a free throw. Courtney added another three-point basket with 14:09 left in the first half, elevating Wells to an 11-2 lead.

The Express, however, were unable to maintain a strong advantage and allowed the opposition to score a shocking 16-straight points to trail 18-11 with only 8:40 left in the first half. The team's lapses on defense would continue in the final minutes of the half, despite a solid rally by the Express offense. A three-pointer by Smith cut the lead to 28-27 in favor of the hosts, but from that point onward, Bryn Athyn would once again use a lengthy scoring run (17-to-4) and reestablish a large lead on the Express.

Wells would see strong performances by the reserves down the stretch. In the game's final 3:35, the Express outscored their opponent by a 11-to-9 margin and saw a team-best seven points from freshman Jared Alexander (Adelphi, Md.) during that time frame.

The Express return to action Sunday, Jan. 18, facing off against Penn St.-Abington on the road at 2 p.m.
