AURORA, N.Y. – Five senior student-athletes scored nine or more points for the Wells College men's basketball team as they notched a 68-58 victory over Penn College Saturday afternoon at the Farenthold Athletic Wing. Wells evens their North Eastern Athletic Conference record at 7-7 following the day, improving to 7-15 overall. Penn College dips to 3-18 on the year and to 2-12 within conference play.

Six student-athletes from Wells were honored in a pre-game ceremony for their lengthy contributions to the program. Seniors EZ Garcia (Cotulla, Texas), Joe Walton (Ocala, Fla.), Salvatore Fabozzi (Staten Island, N.Y.), Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.), Shakeel Simmons (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Erich Kaempffe (North Rose, N.Y.) combined to equal the scoring output by the entire Wildcats roster with 58 points.

Jean's 14 points led the team and he posted a double-double, hauling in 10 rebounds. Simmons led the Express with 11 total rebounds, scoring 13 points of his own. Kaempffe notched 12 points of his own while Garcia racked up 10 points and registered a team-best five takeaways. Fabozzi, who played limited minutes due to injury, posted one rebound in four minutes of action.

Wells led by an impressive 9-2 margin through the game's first 4:36, but the Wildcats came all the way back to capture an 18-17 lead following a Deaundra McCants three-point basket with 9:33 left in the opening stanza. After a Walton free throw make with six seconds left to give Wells a 37-36 lead, a turnover on the inbounds play by the Wildcats led directly to a Simmons layup as time expired.

Leading by a 39-36 margin, the Wildcats saw a layup sandwiched between two three-point baskets as the visitors quickly scored eight-straight points to capture a game-high 44-39 lead. Wells would utilize a 10-4 run to retake the lead as a Jean layup in the paint placed the Express up 49-48.

Down 53-55, Wells would use a Walton jumper to tie the game at 9:02 and then outscore the Wildcats 11-3 down the stretch to pick up a clutch victory over a scrappy conference opponent.

Antony Griffin led Penn College with 13 total points while James Boylan pulled down eight rebounds. Cass Wisniewski ranked second on the team with 12 points scored while Nathaniel Brown assisted a team-best five field goals.

Wells returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 17 as they host the reigning NEAC Champions from Morrisville State College at 7 p.m. in the Farenthold Athletic Wing.
