Men's Basketball Set Back By Gallaudet, 89-74

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's basketball team had two players score at least 20 points on Sunday, but the Express posted an 89-74 loss to Gallaudet University. With the loss, Wells falls to 8-12 overall and to 6-7 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Gallaudet moves to 13-6 overall and to 10-3 within the league.

Freshman Rich Ross (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 28 points for Wells, posting eight rebounds and tying a career-high mark with five three-point baskets. Junior James Feocco (Auburn, N.Y.) scored 20 points, collecting seven rebounds and posting a team-best two steals. Sophomore MJ Williams (Tampa, Fla.) scored eight points off the bench while freshman Tyree Fisher (Henrietta, N.Y.) recorded a team-best seven assists.

Gallaudet opened up a commanding 22-7 lead with 13:52 left in the first half, but Ross would help the Express with a 11-0 run with just under six minutes to go after hitting back-to-back three-point baskets. Feocco added a layup and a free throw make before Ross converted two-straight shots at the foul line to tie the game at 37 with 2:57 left in the opening 20 minutes.

After Wells tied the game, Gallaudet scored the game's next six points to create a 43-37 halftime advantage for the visitors. They also opened the second half on a 4-0 run, ultimately scoring the game's next 10 points after the Express tied the game late in the opening stanza.

Ross cut the Gallaudet lead to two, 53-51, with 12:59 left in regulation time with his second-straight trey. Wells was unable to complete the comeback, as a 14-4 scoring run by the Bison recreated a double-digit lead.

Joshua McGriff led Gallaudet with 31 points and 13 rebounds – he also picked up three blocks on defense, leading players from both teams. All five starters reached double-digit points for the Bison as Trey Gordon finished second in point scoring (16) while dishing out six assists to lead the way.

Wells returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 10, traveling to Keuka College for a 6 p.m. NEAC contest at the Weed Physical Arts Center.
