AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's basketball secured its sixth North Eastern Athletic Conference postseason berth in eight years on Saturday with a clutch 77-66 victory over the SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The Express, who enter the upcoming playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the North Division, will once again take on second-seeded SUNY Poly this Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. in Marcy, N.Y.

Posting a 10-7 record against conference opponents in 2015-16, the Express won six of its last seven games to earn a playoff spot for the first time since the 2012-13 season. Freshman Rich Ross (Bronx, N.Y.) has led all NEAC rookies in point scoring (19.2 ppg) and junior Vaughndell Brantley (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished within the conference's top-25 in average point scoring (13.1) while averaging six rebounds per game (fifth-most in a single season in team history).

In his eighth season directing the Express, Joe Wojtylko became the first Head Coach in school history to reach 100 coaching victories with one sport on Jan. 17 as Wells posted a thrilling 81-80 double-overtime victory against Penn St.-Abington. Additionally, the men's basketball team became the first men's sport at Wells to reach the century mark in total victories and only the sixth varsity program in school history to reach that milestone.

Wells and SUNY Poly have defeated each other once this season – the Wildcats, hosting the Express on Dec. 5, 2015, maintained a 12-point halftime lead en route to a 79-67 victory. Wells, however, answered in a big way by defeating SUNY Poly this past Saturday by a 77-66 margin. Ross scored 24 points for Wells in each game while the Wildcats saw a total of 38 points from Quayshaun Mitchell in 49 minutes of action.

In the all-time series between the two programs, the Wildcats hold the slight 10-9 edge over the Express. Both teams are very familiar with each other in the NEAC postseason as SUNY Poly has defeated the Express twice in the NEAC Championship (2009, 2010) – Wells rebounded to defeat the Wildcats in the conference semifinals on Feb. 26, 2011 by a 73-69 score.
