Houghton Takes Men's Basketball Win Over Wells

The Wells College men's basketball team traveled to Houghton College and fell by an 85-75 final score Friday, Nov. 18 at Houghton, N.Y. It was the second game of the season for both teams. Wells is 1-1 and Houghton improved to 2-0.

Wells started quickly and built a seven-point lead in the first half when Chris Courtney's 3-pointer gave the Express a 19-12 advantage. Wells maintained its lead until Houghton briefly edged in front by one point on three occasions, but Wells held a 37-35 lead at halftime.

Houghton made a 3-pointer in the opening minute of the second half and Ayodele Akinmola answered with a layup to put the Express back in front 39-38. That was the last lead of the game for Wells, as Houghton went on a 12-3 run to lead 50-42. The lead grew to as many as 13 points in the second half and the Highlanders wrapped up a 10-point win.

Courtney led Wells in scoring with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. It was the second-highest single-game point total in Courtney's career, one shy of the 26-point game he had at Penn College in February 2016.

Rich Ross had 16 points and Vaughndell Brantley scored 11. James Feocco led Wells with seven rebounds. Anthony Nesci had four assists and four steals.

The Express returns to action Monday, with a 7 p.m. home game at the Schwartz Center against Rochester Institute of Technology.
