Rich Ross Earns NEAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honor

Sophomore guard Rich Ross of the Wells College men's basketball team earned recognition as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8, 2017.

Over two games last week, Ross averaged 35 points per game and led the Express to road victories at New York University and Morrisville State College.

Saturday's win at Morrisville was punctuated by a game-winning 3-pointer from Ross on the final shot of the game to give Wells a 72-71 victory. It capped a 37-point performance for Ross, a career-best single-game scoring total. He was 13-for-13 from the free-throw line and made four 3-pointers.

Ross scored 33 points in the victory at NYU with eight 3-pointers, which was one shy of the program's single-game record.

In addition to his scoring output, Ross averaged 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in the week.

It is the first time in men's basketball program history that Wells has started its conference schedule with a 4-0 record in NEAC games. The Express stands in first place and is the only undefeated team in the North Division of the NEAC.

Ross earned his second NEAC weekly award this season. He was NEAC Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4, 2016 following conference victories over Cazenovia, SUNY Poly and Cobleskill. He ranks in the top-50 in NCAA Division III basketball in scoring with 20.7 points per game.

Wells continues conference play Wednesday at Keuka College at 8 p.m. and then hosts Cobleskill on Saturday and SUNY Poly on Sunday. Both weekend games begin at 3 p.m.
