Men's Basketball Falls In OT To Start Campaign

The Wells College men's basketball team opened its season with an overtime thriller but came out on the short side of a 71-70 score to visiting Houghton College on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Schwartz Athletic Center.

The Express forced overtime with a 3-pointer by Rich Ross in the closing minutes of the second half that tied the score 63-63.

Houghton outscored Wells 8-7 in the overtime period and the visiting Highlanders scored the final four points of the game on a pair of shots in the paint from Dylan Lambert. He led all players with 34 points in the game.

Wells trailed 35-30 at halftime, and faced a 10-point deficit early in the second half before rallying to send the game to overtime.

Ross had 27 points to lead Wells, and junior guard Macho DeJesus scored 20 in his Wells debut. DeJesus previously played at Corning Community College. David Dames added eight points and eight rebounds. Ross led Wells with 12 rebounds and five assists.

The Express is back in action Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at Rochester Institute of Technology.
