Balanced Scoring Boosts Wells Men's Basketball

The Wells College men's basketball team started North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 69-63 win over Cazenovia College on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Cazenovia, N.Y. Four players scored in double figures for the Express, led by 21 points from junior guard Macho DeJesus.

Wells is 1-0 in NEAC play and 1-4 overall. Cazenovia is 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Rich Ross and Anthony Nesci each scored 14 for the Express and Jalen Tribble had 11 points.

The Express built its largest lead of 13 points with three minutes remaining in the first half. A 3-pointer by Ross capped a 12-1 run and Wells led 29-16. Cazenovia answered with the final eight points of the half and the Express held a 29-24 lead at halftime. Tribble scored nine first-half points.

Cazenovia led by one early in the second half, but the Express took the lead back and never trailed again.

Ross was Wells' leading rebounder with 12 boards.

Wells scored 23 of its 69 points from the free-throw line as Ross was 8-for-10 at the line and DeJesus went 6-for-8. Cazenovia also scored 23 points at the foul line.

The Express defense limited Cazenovia to just 29.8 percent shooting from the floor and forced 21 Wildcats turnovers.

Wells is back in action Tuesday, Dec. 5 with a 7 p.m. home game against Ithaca College.
