Men's Basketball Takes Road Win At Penn College

The Wells College men's basketball team went on the road and picked up a North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division victory with a 76-67 win over Penn College on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Bardo Gymnasium in Williamsport, Pa.

Sophomore guard Zach D'Arpino led the Express with 21 points. It was a career-best scoring night for D'Arpino. All 21 points came on seven made 3-pointers. He was 7-for-10 from behind the arc. It was the fourth time this season he scored in double figures and the fifth time in his career.

Macho DeJesus added 19 points and made four 3 pointers. Tyree Fisher scored 12 for the Express. Fisher also led Wells with eight rebounds and four steals, a career-best for Fisher in rebounds and tied for a career-best performance in steals.

The first half was a back-and-forth contest that featured 10 lead changes. Wells led 44-39 at halftime.

In the second half, Wells stretched its lead to 11 points on a 3-pointer from D'Arpino that put the Express ahead 61-50. Penn College answered with a 16-4 run and took brief leads of 64-63 and 66-65.

Wells finished the game by outscoring Penn College 11-1 over the final four minutes to earn the victory.

The Express committed five turnovers on the night, its lowest turnover game of the season. Wells made 15 shots from 3-point territory, which tied a season-high in that category.

Wells is 6-12 overall and 4-5 in the NEAC. Penn College is 2-15 overall and 1-7 in the conference. The Express is back in action Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Keuka College at 6 p.m.
