Men's Basketball Knocks Off South Division Leader

The Wells College men's basketball team picked up its biggest win of the season with an 80-74 victory over Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Lancaster Bible entered the game as leaders of the North Eastern Athletic Conference South Division with a 10-2 conference record.

Lancaster Bible College jumped out to a 12-point lead in the first half at 23-11. Wells closed the half on a 25-10 run, including a 3-pointer from Rich Ross at the buzzer. Wells led 36-33 at halftime.

In the second half, Lancaster Bible led 51-46 but Wells went on a 14-5 run  and took a 60-56 lead. During the stretch, Ross and Dylan Frost each had two baskets. Wells held the lead for the remaining seven minutes of the second half by answering each Lancaster Bible challenge with a basket at the other end. Wells led by two points in the final minute but Lancaster Bible had a backcourt violation on an errant pass. A layup by Rich Ross stretched the Wells lead to four points and Jalen Tribble sealed the victory with a steal and two free throws.

Rich Ross scored 30 points and made five 3-pointers for the Express. DaVontai Crutch had 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Ross was the leading rebounder with seven and Ty McBride had five assists.

Wells had 10 turnovers in the game and helped force 17 turnovers by Lancaster Bible College.

The Express is 4-18 overall and 3-10 in the NEAC. Wells hosts Gallaudet University at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.
