Men's Basketball Rally Comes Up Short On Senior Day

The Wells College men's basketball team made an exciting charge to start the second half but eventually fell to visiting SUNY Poly on Saturday, Feb. 16 as the Wildcats came away with a 69-55 win over the Express. Prior to the game, Wells College seniors David Dames and Rich Ross were honored for their contributions to the program.

Wells trailed 31-26 at halftime but started the second half on a huge run. SUNY Poly scored the opening basket of the half to lead by seven, then Wells scored 14 points in a row. The run included three-straight two-point baskets for Rich Ross, a dunk from DaVontai Crutch, and back-to-back 3-pointers from Ross.

The Express lead grew to its largest with a nine-point margin at 46-37 with about 12 minutes remaining. The Wildcats chipped away and Wells' last lead was a 50-49 advantage with 7:30 remaining. SUNY Poly closed out the game on a 19-6 run and went on to the win.

Ross had 25 points and seven rebounds. Dylan Frost had eight points. Jalen Tribble led Wells with nine rebounds.

Dames, from Manhattan, was a three-year varsity player and missed the 2018-19 season due to injury. He ranks third all-time in program history with 94 blocked shots. He is majoring in business with a minor in psychology.

Ross, from the Bronx, finished his career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,882 career points. He was NEAC Player of the Year and an all-region selection following the 2016-17 season. Ross is a business major with minors in psychology and sport management.

Wells finished with a 6-18 overall record and went 5-11 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
