Men’s Basketball Team’s Late Double-Digit Run Sinks Houghton

The Wells College men's basketball team defeated visiting Houghton College 68-60 on Wednesday, Dec. 4 as the Express prepares for conference play that begins this weekend.

Wells took control early and built a first-half lead by as much as 14 points after a Jalen Tribble dunk before heading into the break with a double-digit lead at 36-26.

The Highlanders eventually caught up and took a 46-45 lead eight minutes into the second half. The teams traded leads four times over the next five minutes before a Ty McBride layup gave the Express the lead for good at 54-52 with the start of an 11-0 run that sealed the victory for Wells. Eight of the 11 points scored during the run came collectively from Izaiah McPherson and Jalen Feliz with four points apiece.

Wells finished with three double-digit scorers with another two players just a bucket away from making it five on the night.

McPherson led all Wells scorers with 16, while shooting 70 percent from the floor. Tribble had the team's only double-double with 10 points and 10 boards and also added three blocks, while Feliz added 13 from the bench.

Keian Montero and Quentin Battle each had eight points. Montero led the team in assists with six to go with five boards, while Battle had six rebounds. McBride had a team-high three steals.

The men's basketball team begins a string of 16-consecutive North Eastern Athletic Conference games by hosting Penn State-Harrisburg this Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m.
