Men’s Basketball Team’s Rally Falls Short

The Wells College men's basketball team went down 18 points early, but rallied and got within two scores late in the second half before falling to visiting SUNY Poly by a 58-49 score on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Points were hard to come by in the early going with a combined 11 points scored by both teams after seven minutes of play with the Express leading 7-4. The Wildcats took a big lead at 25-7 thanks to a 21-0 run that gave Poly a 30-13 lead at the break.

Wells continued to chip away in the second half and after a Dylan Frost free throw made it a two-score game at 46-40, the Express were on a roll. Wells outscored the Wildcats by a 37-16 margin from the beginning of the second half to six minutes left in the game before Poly had a rally of its own. The Express shot 55 percent from the floor in the second.

Jalen Tribble led the team with 18 points. Aside from Tribble's total, the rest of the team scored by committee with balanced scoring with six other players scoring between 4-6 points. Frost, Quentin Battle, and Keian Montero each registered a half-dozen points. Five came from Ty McBride, with four each scored by Izaiah McPherson and Jahlil Nougues.

Battle led the team in rebounds with five with McPherson adding four boards.

The men's basketball team will host SUNY Morrisville this Saturday, Feb. 1 with a 1 p.m. tipoff.
