HISTORIC WIN FOR MEN'S LACROSSE

Aurora, N.Y.–  The Wells College men's lacrosse team earned their first win in program history defeating North Eastern Athletic Conference rival Penn. St. Abington 12-7 on Sunday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. Dan Hunt led the Express with seven goals and two assists, while Kyle Brimm earned the win in net with 14 stops. Wells improves to 1-5 on the season, while the Nittany Lions fall to 0-6.

It was a long awaited victory for the Express who struggled through their first two season as a program without a win, but this year seems to have marked a turning point for the team who is scoring more goals and holding opponents at a lower scoring margin than ever before.

The Express dominated from start to finish peppering the Nittany Lions with 48 shots, while holding the advantage in ground balls 49-30. The Express also proved to be the more disciplined team, racking up just 7 minutes of penalties, while the Nittany Lions nearly doubled that with 13.

It was a back and forth battle in the first quarter as both teams exchanged goals, but a late goal by Kylan Hallett with 20 seconds remaining would give Wells the 3-2 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Express continued to carry the momentum as they would net three straight goals to open up a 6-2 lead on the Nittany Lions. Abington would battle back with under three-minutes remaining, scoring two goals to climb back within two, 6-4, at the break.

Wells dominated the second half, scoring five straight goals, including three on the man advantage, as their lead ballooned to 11-4. The Nittany Lions made one last attempt at a comeback, scoring three straight goals with under 10 minutes to go in the fourth, trimming the lead to 11-7. The Express would put any doubts to rest as Dan Hunt buried an insurance goal on a feed from Chris Burger with 1:45 remaining to seal the victory.

Hallett had a big day for the Express scoring three goals and assisting on four others, while Dan Munsell rounded out the scoring with two goals and one assists.

The Express next play SUNY Cobleskill on Friday, April 2nd at 4:00 p.m. in Aurora, N.Y.
