HILBERT COLLEGE DEFEATS EXPRESS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The Hilbert College Hawks broke open an 8-6 game with eight straight goals in the third quarter en route to an 18-9 victory over the Wells College men's lacrosse team in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon in Aurora. The loss drops the Express to 3-5 on the year while the Hawks improve to 5-4.
 
Jonathan Mulcahey (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) paced the Express with four goals, two assists, and three ground balls. Forrest Lambert (Aurora, Colo./Overland) added a team high three assist and ten ground balls while Steven Mack (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free) and Kylan Hallett (Basom, N.Y./Akron) each tallied two goals for the Express. David Kaus (Erie, Pa./N.W. Collegiate) took the loss in net finishing with 17 saves.
 
Ryan Wagner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Canisius) led the Hawks with six goals, two assists, and seven ground balls while teammate Kori Halfton (Gowanda, N.Y./Gowanda) added four goals and two assists. Pat Lunderman (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) earned the win in net with 11 saves.
 
Mack gave the Express an early 1-0 lead on a pass from Mulcahey just seconds into the game. The Hawks responded, scoring three straight goals to open up a 3-1 lead less five minutes into play. Mulcahey pulled the Express to within one (3-2), scoring on a feed from Chris Burger but the Hawks again responded, scoring two more goals to close the first quarter with a 5-2 lead.
 
Hallett scored two straight goals to open the second quarter, trimming the lead to one (5-4) and the deficit would remain well into the quarter until Halftown put the Hawks up by two (8-6) with a goal just seconds before the end of the half.
 
The Hawks came alive in the third quarter scoring eight unanswered goals on 20 shots while holding the Express scoreless on just four shots, opening up a 16-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter, a deficit too large for Wells to overcome.
 
The Hawks held the advantage in shots on goal (35-20) while the Express scooped up 38 ground balls to the Hawks 39.
 
The Express return to action next on Saturday, April 16 when they take on Kean University in a non-conference tilt set to begin at 4 p.m. in Aurora.
