Munsell Sets Program Goal Scoring Record In Loss To Cazenovia

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior captain Daniel Munsell (Doylestown, Pa.) became the all-time program leader in goals scored and reached the century mark in career point scoring as the Wells College men's lacrosse team posted an 18-9 loss to the Wildcats of Cazenovia College. The Express fall to 0-5 on the season after dropping their first North Eastern Athletic Conference tilt (0-1). The Wildcats even their record at 3-3 and improve to 1-0 against conference foes on the year.

With his fourth goal of the game, Munsell scored his 81st career goal to capture the all-time goal scoring lead in program history, passing Kylan Hallett '11 who scored 80 career goals. By assisting teammate Andrew Eiffert's (Canandaigua, N.Y.) first collegiate goal in the first quarter, Munsell also became only the second Wells men's lacrosse player to reach the century mark in point scoring. He is only seven points away from tying Hallett, who ranks first with 112 points (80-32=112) to his credit.

In this afternoon's tilt, Munsell led the way with five goals and an assist to his credit – his five goals in one game tie his career high. Most recently, Munsell scored five goals against the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington on Mar. 31, 2012. Midfielder Matt Duffy (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded four assists in this afternoon's game, setting a career-high mark in that category. Freshman Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) tallied two goals and an assist for three points, recording two goals for the third-straight game to open his career.

The Express scored back-to-back goals following a 6-0 run by Cazenovia to begin the contest. Eiffert notched his first collegiate goal with 2:37 remaining in the quarter to place the Express on the board while Munsell tallied his sixth of the season only 27 seconds into the second quarter to further cut into the deficit.

The Wildcats ran off the game's next six goals before the Express scored six of the game's next eight goals to cut the margin to 13-7 following senior Brayden Shumski's (Everett, Wash.) first collegiate marker with 13:13 remaining in the fourth quarter. Cazenovia was able to place four more goals on the scoreboard before Munsell added his fifth goal of the game with 6:28 remaining in the contest to conclude the scoring.

For Cazenovia, Joe Delia scored one goal and added eight assists to end his day with nine total points (1-8=9). Kyle Kingsley chipped in six goals and an assist for seven points (6-1=7) while Taylor Hastrich followed with a hat trick and an assist for four points (3-1=4).

Wells outshot the visiting team 43-to-36 and also scooped up more ground balls than Cazenovia (53-to-39). Cazenovia, however, was able to convert 3-of-7 man-up opportunities while Wells was held off the scoresheet (0-for-5).

The Express return to action Tuesday, Apr. 7 as they face-off against the Mavericks of Medaille College in a 3:00 p.m. road contest.
