Men's Lacrosse Drops 11-10 NEAC Contest To SUNY Cobleskill

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's lacrosse team built up a 9-8 lead through the first three quarters, but couldn't hold on in what proved to be an 11-10 loss at the hands of SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, Wells falls to 2-1 overall on the year and to 0-1 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Fighting Tigers (1-5, 1-0 NEAC) earn only their second NEAC win in as many years.

Freshman Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.) tied with sophomore Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) for the team lead with five points – Milliken registered a team-best four goals and an assist (4-1=5) while Jansen chipped in with three markers and two assists (3-2=5). Defenseman Hayden Shuster (Careywood, Id.) caused a team-best five turnovers and hauled in seven ground balls, also leading the team.

Trailing by a 3-1 margin through the game's first 4:59, Wells countered just under three minutes later as Jansen scored his first goal of the game to cut into the decifit. Max Sprauer and senior Alex Manley (South Buffalo, N.Y.) traded goals to conclude the second half, but the visiting Fighting Tigers carried a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.

Wells would immediately tie the game in the second quarter, using a Milliken goal on a feed from Jansen to tie the game at four aside. After trading scores, an Express turnover within the final minute of the first half proved to be costly, however, as Austin Fragale carried the ball immediately up the field and converted his second goal of the game to lift Cobleskill to a 7-6 halftime lead.

The Express turned up the heat in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents by a 3-to-1 margin after using goals from Milliken, Jansen and freshman Cody Roberson (Clemmons, N.C.) to take a 9-8 lead. Carrying that same lead into the fourth quarter, Wells committed a game-high 12 turnovers in the final stanza and allowed the Fighting Tigers to score three goals to take an 11-10 lead with 5:27 left in regulation time. Despite a late charge from the Express, the visitors were able to eke out a win.

Chris Magee led all Fighting Tigers with three goals while David Meyers collected 10 ground balls to lead the team in that statistic. Three different players caused three turnovers for SUNY Cobleskill while Meyers was 11-for-15 at the face-off "X" for the visitors.

Eric Randazzo (1-5) earned the win between the pipes for the Fighting Tigers as he allowed 10 goals on 16 shots by the Express. Wells goaltender Tyler Bischoff (Annandale, N.J.) falls to 2-1 on the season, making 13 saves against 24 shots by SUNY Cobleskill.

Wells returns to action Sunday, Mar. 30 as they face-off against the Storm of Keuka College in a 2:30 p.m. contest at Penn Yan Academy in Penn Yan, N.Y.
