Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up By Medaille, 22-10

AURORA, N.Y. – Sophomore Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.) registered six goals and two assists for eight points (6-2=8) as the Wells College men's lacrosse team posted a 22-10 loss to the Mavericks of Medaille College on Thursday at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express drop to 3-2 overall on the year and to 0-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Medaille improves to 2-4 on the season while remaining undefeated in league play (2-0).

Milliken's six goals led players from both teams while sophomore Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) hauled in a team-best 10 ground balls. Defenseman Hayden Shuster (Careywood, Id.) reeled in seven ground balls and caused a team-best three turnovers.

Medaille jumped out to an 8-0 lead through the first quarter of play as Brock Levick registered two goals and assisted three goals through the tilt's first 15 minutes. Freshman Derrick Owens (Utica, N.Y.) got the Express on the board to open the second quarter, scoring back-to-back goals before Jansen forced home a pass from Milliken to cut into the deficit.

The Mavericks countered with eight straight goals to place the game out of reach for the Express, capturing a 16-3 lead with 7:38 remaining in the third quarter. Wells, however, answered with a goal from Milliken with 1:31 left to shrink the Medaille lead. A Tim Wester goal with 39 seconds left in the third quarter recreated a 13 goal lead at 17-4.

Following a Connor Bermingham strike only 59 seconds into the fourth quarter, Milliken scored three-straight goals with the man advantage. In total, Milliken racked up all three man-up goals within 25 seconds to set the score at 18-7, in favor of the guests. Adding two goals later in the stanza, Milliken accounted for five of his team's six fourth quarter tallies.

Wester led all Medaille players with 10 points, scoring five goals and as many assists (5-5=10). Levick forced home five goals and four assists for nine points (5-4=9) while Eric Roth scooped up 12 ground balls while winning 18 face-offs for the Mavericks. Cameron Ferguson scored four goals and assisted three strikes for seven points to rank third on the squad.

Wells goaltender Tyler Bischoff (Allendale, N.J.) was saddled with the loss, making nine saves on 31 shots across 60 minutes. Medaille backstop Julian LaDelia made seven saves on 10 shots before yielding to Gamaliel Romero, who allowed seven goals on 10 Wells shots within the game's final 19:20.

The Express return to action this Saturday, Apr. 12 as they face-off against the Mustangs of Morrisville State College in a 3:00 p.m. contest. Admission to the contest is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children aged 12 to 17.
