Milliken Sets Single Season Point Scoring Record In Loss To Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Freshman Alex Milliken (Fulton, N.Y.) set the Wells College men's lacrosse single season point scoring record in his team's 17-6 loss to the Wildcats of Cazenovia College on Saturday. With the loss, Wells dips to 3-6 overall and to 0-6 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Cazenovia improves to 7-3 overall and to 2-3 within the league.

On the season, Milliken has registered 39 goals and 10 assists for 49 points (39-10=49), setting the Wells single season scoring record through only nine games played. He ranks sixth all-time in career point scoring, trailing David Kaus '12 by only three points for fifth place.

Milliken's five points led the team while senior Alex Manley (South Buffalo, N.Y.) ranked second with three points, netting a goal and two assists offensively. Sophomore Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) scored a goal and chipped in with 10 face-off victories along with eight ground balls. Freshman defenseman Brendan O'Connor (York, Pa.) caused a team-leading three turnovers for the Express.

Cazenovia was only able to register four goals in the opening 14 minutes before Wells struck first in the second with a Manley goal off of a feed from freshman Derrick Owens (Utica, N.Y.). The Wildcats scored only 25 seconds following Wells' goal and a Brandon Maxson goal immediately followed to elevate the hosts to a 6-1 lead.

Milliken scored the game's next three goals as the Express cut into the lead, setting the score at 6-4 with 7:39 left in the first half of play. Cazenovia, however, went on to score 11 of the game's next 13 goals to come out on top in the contest.

Wes Lawrence led all Wildcats with four goals while Maxson's seven points (2-5=7) led players from both sides in cumulative point scoring. Casey Dailey caused four turnovers while Zach House collected 10 ground balls for Cazenovia.

Express goaltender Tyler Bischoff (Allendale, N.J.) made 17 saves in the loss. Pat Boyle picked up the win for the Wildcats, stopping 6-of-12 shots on net that he faced. Rameen Nazir turned aside all three shots he saw in relief across the tilt's final 9:35.

Wells returns to action this Tuesday, Apr. 22 as they face-off against the Kangaroos from SUNY Canton in a 4:00 p.m. road contest. The game was originally scheduled for Mar. 5 and Mar. 27 but postponed due to an unplayable game surface in Canton, N.Y.
