First-Half Surge Propels Canton To Men's Lacrosse Win

The Wells College men's lacrosse team was back in action Saturday, March 30 and lost 14-8 against SUNY Canton at the Wells Turf Field. Nathan Ramsey had five goals and Quinten Battle had three goals for the Express.

Wells scored the first goal of the game on a right-hand shot from in front by Quinten Battle, but Canton scored the next eight goals to take control. Canton had a 19-5 advantage at the faceoff X in the game including 11-3 in the first half. Wells trailed 9-3 at halftime.

One of Ramsey's goals came in a man-down situation and two of Battle's goals were scored man-up. Cash Lawson had three assists in the game and Justin Dude had one assist.

Charlie Iwuoha had five caused turnovers and three ground balls to lead the defense.

Cory Hodge Jr. made his first start at goalkeeper and played into the second quarter when he was replaced by Trevor Stein. Hodge made seven saves and Stein had 13 saves.

Wells is 1-6 through the non-conference portion of its schedule. The remaining seven games are all against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents, beginning with a Wednesday, April 3 game at Hilbert College.
