Men's Lacrosse: "Awards Show Rewind"

"Awards Show Rewind" is a Wells College Athletics 13 segment feature that reviews each 2019-20 Wells athletics team and its honorees from the May 20 Express Awards Show in reverse order from the show's countdown. Today's featured team is the 2020 men's lacrosse team. Wells College men's lacrosse team's head coach Andrew Daly handed out four awards to four winners and recognized four seniors at the Wells College Express Awards Show on Wednesday, May 20.

Daly awarded rookie of the year to Miles Mungall. "Even though we had two games, to post 34 saves in those two games was quite the feat. Miles is the backbone of our defense," said Daly.

Trevor Stein received the Express Award, which goes to the player who embodies the true ideals of team commitment: leadership, discipline, dedication, and sportsmanship. Daly added, "I think if you asked anybody who knows lacrosse and watched the game and has some knowledge about how lacrosse is played and you described what the Express Award was; you wouldn't have to see practices, you wouldn't have to know about Wells or much else. The way Trevor plays, speaks for itself. He literally gave his body and every piece of it in order to help his team win."

Joe Stoj was awarded the defensive most valuable player to which Daly added, "Joe made sure everybody brought their intensity every single day in practice and wreaked havoc on our offensive players – specifically on the attack – and made sure if they weren't ready to go, that they were going to get some arms broken. That type of intensity as a coach, you appreciate, no matter what."

Finally, the most valuable player of the year went to Quinten Battle. "Quinten made sure that we held down the middle of the field and when he gets a full head of steam going against any long poll, I don't know if there's anyone in our conference that can stop him. Quinten was our leading scorer," Daly said.

Senior recognition by Daly included: Joe Stoj, Padraic Iannello, Jared Shearer and Nathan Ramsey.

"I really want to thank our four seniors. I spent a lot of time talking to each one of them. They really meant a lot to me and it really breaks my heart that they were only allowed to get a fraction of their senior year. They gave so much of their time and energy back to this team and back to this community, that it really breaks my heart and is such a misjustice that they weren't able to continue (with the season), but I'll always love them, and this team will always be there for them. Thank-you very much and I wish all of you the best of luck in everything that you do," said Daly.

Prior to Daly announcing his team's award winners, Provost and Dean of the College Dr. Cindy Speaker announced the inaugural class of Wells College's New York State Alpha Omicron Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, a national organization that recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition. In order to be inducted, a student-athlete must attend a four-year accredited college or university that is a member of the NCAA, NAIA, or NCCAA. The honoree also must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.4. One member of the men's lacrosse team was among those named, Joe Stoj.
