Schalk Selected As Assistant Coach for Men's Soccer

Kevin L. Schalk of Syracuse, N.Y. has been hired as the Wells assistant men’s soccer coach. He will begin his duties in August 2006.

Head coach Michael Paolini is pleased Schalk will be joining his staff: “Heading into the first season of varsity, it is important to me, to the College, and to the team that we have someone on board who has the energy, drive, and motivation to make this a fun and winning experience. Kevin possesses all of these qualities and brings years of playing and coaching experience to Wells.”

Schalk is a 1990 graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse high school, and attended the College of Charleston in South Carolina.  Currently, he is enrolled at Columbia College in Syracuse.

His coaching experience includes serving as assistant coach and program goalie coach for his high school alma mater; he is program goalie coach for the Northstar Soccer Coach, and was assistant coach for the 2003 Empire State Games. He led his team to the Section III semi-finals five years in a row (2001-2005), and to the league championship in 2005. He is a member of the New York West Soccer Coaches Association and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and holds a national goalkeepers license.

“I am excited about the opportunity to assist Coach Paolini in developing a men's Division III soccer program at Wells College,” said Schalk. “I am glad to be part of this undertaking from the onset, and I look forward to the challenge that lies ahead of me. I bring an enthusiasm and work ethic that will contribute to our staff and also attract student-athletes that possess the same traits. In combination with the deep rooted history and tradition of Wells, our talented student-athletes, and the passion and knowledge Coach Paolini and I bring to the table, I am confident that we can deliver a winning men’s Division III soccer program.”
